Definition

The address people type to reach a website, such as a business name ending in .com.au, registered through a domain registrar.

In plain English

It's separate from the website itself, the hosting that runs it, and the email that uses it — a domain can point to any of these, and they aren't always managed by the same company.

Common confusion

A domain name, the website built on it, its hosting, and its email are four separate things that are easy to assume are all one service.
