Privacy at Friendly Geek

Privacy Policy

This page explains what information the Friendly Geek website handles, why it is needed and which services help run the website and enquiry form.

Last updated: 5 July 2026

What this policy covers

This policy covers personal information handled through friendlygeek.com.au and direct email contact with Friendly Geek. “Personal information” means information about an identified person or a person who can reasonably be identified.

Friendly Geek collects only what is reasonably useful to answer an enquiry, provide requested support, run the website and protect it from misuse.

What the contact form collects

The contact form asks for:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • a phone number, if you choose to provide one;
  • the type of service you are asking about; and
  • the message you write, up to 2,000 characters.

Please do not include passwords, verification codes, payment card details, identity documents or other highly sensitive information in the form. If sensitive information may be relevant, contact Friendly Geek first and ask for a safer way to discuss it.

Why this information is needed

Information you provide may be used to:

  • understand and respond to your enquiry;
  • work out whether Friendly Geek is a suitable service for the request;
  • arrange or provide support you ask for;
  • continue an email conversation with you;
  • keep reasonable business records where needed; and
  • protect the website and contact form from spam, abuse and technical problems.

Contact details submitted through the form are not used to add you to a marketing list.

How an enquiry is sent

When you submit the form, the website validates the fields and checks a Cloudflare Turnstile token. If the check succeeds, the form details are sent through Resend as a transactional email to the Friendly Geek enquiry inbox.

The email contains your name, email address, optional phone number, selected service and message. Your email address is also used as the reply address so Friendly Geek can respond directly.

The website does not write enquiries to the source-code repository or a separate customer database. Resend delivers the enquiry to Friendly Geek's Microsoft 365 business email account. Microsoft 365 receives the email from Resend; it does not collect the form details directly from your browser.

Resend and Microsoft process the email and associated delivery information under their own service terms and privacy arrangements.

Cloudflare Turnstile

The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to distinguish likely people from automated submissions. The Turnstile script runs in your browser and Cloudflare processes technical signals such as an IP address, browser or user-agent information, connection characteristics, the public site key and the website origin.

Friendly Geek sends the short-lived Turnstile token to Cloudflare for server-side verification before an enquiry is delivered. The token is used for spam protection, not as part of the enquiry email. Cloudflare explains this processing in its Turnstile Privacy Addendum.

Website hosting and server information

The production website runs using Cloudflare infrastructure. To deliver and protect the site, Cloudflare may process IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, browser or system information, routing data and security signals.

More information is available in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

The website also requests its typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser makes that request, Google receives the technical information needed to return the font files. Friendly Geek does not use that request to identify you.

Technical error and delivery logs are intended for reliability and security. The contact implementation deliberately avoids logging enquiry message contents when a Turnstile check or email delivery fails.

Tracking, analytics and cookies

The current website does not use analytics, advertising trackers or marketing profiling. Friendly Geek does not sell personal information.

Cloudflare Turnstile may use technical signals and strictly necessary cookies or similar storage to perform its security check. If analytics or additional third-party processors are introduced later, this policy will be updated before or when those changes occur.

Services that process information

The website currently relies on:

  • Cloudflare for production hosting, delivery, security infrastructure and Turnstile spam protection;
  • Resend to deliver contact-form enquiries by email;
  • Microsoft 365 to receive, store and send Friendly Geek business email; and
  • Google Fonts to supply the website's typefaces.

These providers may process information in Australia and other countries, including the United States and other locations where they or their subprocessors operate. Their own privacy terms govern their independent handling of information.

Personal information may also be disclosed where you ask or authorise Friendly Geek to do so, where reasonably necessary to provide the requested service, or where disclosure is required by law.

Email communication

If you use the contact form or email [email protected] directly, your message and later replies form part of an email conversation. Email is convenient, but no email service or internet transmission is completely risk-free.

Friendly Geek does not send marketing email merely because you made an enquiry. If optional newsletters or marketing communications are introduced later, they will require a separate and clear choice.

How long enquiries are kept

Friendly Geek will normally keep a contact enquiry for up to 12 months after the last meaningful communication.

If an enquiry becomes an ongoing customer relationship, information may be kept for longer where reasonably necessary to provide services, maintain accounting records, meet legal obligations or resolve a dispute. Information may also be kept longer where Australian law requires it.

Enquiries are periodically reviewed. Information that is no longer required is securely deleted in line with the retention policy above.

Security and its limits

Friendly Geek uses technical and organisational safeguards to protect the site and enquiry process. These include server-side validation, Turnstile spam checking, restricted service credentials and avoiding a separate enquiry database.

No online service, email account or storage system can remove every risk. Information could be affected by software faults, provider incidents, human error or malicious activity. If Friendly Geek becomes aware of a privacy or security incident, it will assess what happened and respond accordingly.

Your information and privacy questions

You may ask to access, correct or delete personal information Friendly Geek holds about you. You can also raise a privacy concern by emailing [email protected].

Enough information may be requested to confirm your identity and locate the relevant correspondence. Access or deletion may be limited if information must reasonably be kept, or if providing or deleting it would affect another person's privacy or a legal obligation.

General information about privacy in Australia is available from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Updates to this policy

This policy may change when the website, contact process, service providers or relevant business practices change. The current version will be published on this page and the “Last updated” date will be revised.
