Remote support

Remote-support safeguards.

This page separates confirmed suitability guidance from session-control policies that still require owner verification.

Confirmed guidance

When remote support may—or may not—be suitable.

May be suitable

  • The problem can be handled safely and effectively online.
  • Software, account, settings, website or explanation-based work can be discussed without inspecting physical equipment onsite.

Usually needs another approach

  • The work needs physical installation, cabling, device handling or an onsite inspection.
  • A local network or equipment problem cannot be assessed safely and effectively online.

Verification status

Session controls are not yet approved for public claims.

The repository does not yet contain an owner-approved remote-access procedure. The site therefore makes no claim about the following controls until the owner supplies and verifies them:

  • How a session is authorised
  • What the client can see
  • How a session can be stopped
  • Whether unattended access is used
  • How credentials and private files are handled
  • What Friendly Geek will never ask for

This page remains excluded from search indexing until those safeguards are approved. Its presence is not evidence that a specific remote-access tool or control is used.

Have a technology problem?

Describe what is happening. Friendly Geek can first consider whether local or remote support is appropriate.
